reporting from terminal 2, changi airport

Currently, I'm connected to the wireless internet at Changi Airport, Singapore. I'm stuck here for 4 hours until I catch my connecting flight and I only have an hour left on my battery :(

But anyway, Emirates upgraded me to Business class! Meaning legroom, real forks and spoons, seriously reclining seats and a MASSAGE function on the seat too. And the food was yum even though it was a red eye and I wasn't hungry at all. They had these teeny sandwiches that were more like small rolls. I had one salmon and cream cheese one and was tempted to take the petit fours but hello, some restraint please! Then I wanted to watch Prince Caspian (because I still haven't) but I discovered the extreme seat adjustability functions from a little touchscreen at the side and promptly went to sleep. I noted that the pillow cover was cotton or at least poly/cotton, better than those gross plasticy rough things they give you in economy. The toiletries kit has a mini-perfume from Bvlgari (what a weird word to type) and I threw out my deodorant at customs so I think I might smell a little funky.

And then I slept some real REM sleep, which is why I'm so awake now. Actually, I haven't had a decent night's rest since Saturday night because I was so ridiculously full from Sunday's festivities and worried about packing and leaving on the past few nights. Now that I'm on my way home and don't have to think too much about being unemployed and paying rent and bills and stuff, I slept so much better.

The flight went well. Brisbane looked so twinkly from up above, and weather conditions were good except for that rough patch somewhere at the bottom bit of Borneo.

OK ok. My dad is picking me up at the airport and I need to buy some Macallan for him. I'll probably be out of there by 3pm, latest. Too late for lunch, but in Malaysia, anything is possible!

I didn't expect to find it so thrilling to hear such a variety of accents again. The man using the public phone called his family and spoke naggingly in Tamil, then called his business partner/manager/secretary and updated him/her on his locations. Airport staff start a sentence in one language and finish in another. And lit-tel kitts!

comings and goings
