Even if I do use people's memories to look over their fic I find memories hard to work with myself. For one, you can't have any subcategories, which as you point out, would put all the RPS together. Most people who read Jsquared have no interest in JM/DB and vice versa. Unless I have two categories, CWRPC and Buffyverse RPS. And if you make a mistake it's a lot harder to correct it. Like in what order they should be and such. One mistake and you might have to start all over again. Since LJ started using tags I sometimes even forget to use the memories (although I try to always put new chapters of WIP in memories) and have to go back to do it later.

But then again I do have exactly that kind of lists, catagorised by fandoms, in separate LJ entries, and as far as I can tell from the counters they get a fair visiting. I think I would rather put links to those lists in memories, even if I do have them in my userinfo as well as on the right bar on my journal. Those lists offer more info anyway on each one than the short subject line in memories can provide.

I actually find the tag 'drabbles' the most useful one for those who like drabbles in the first place, since by clicking that tag you get them all in on row (I delete the cut tags after they've been up for a week or so) and don't have to wait for a page to load just to read 100 words, which I for one would not find worth the trouble and I can believe is even more tedious for those with dial-up.

As I see it my lists offer an overview, as if reading the contents list for a book, while the tags offer ways to find more specific reading material, as if you were searching the index. If that makes any sense. Maybe it's the librarian in me but I find it much easier to find what you're looking for that way than using the memories because their options are so limited.
