Just checking in. We're in the countryside, drove up north to visit my aunt and uncle, grandma's siblings. I used to stay at their farm every summer from the age of 8 until I was 21 so this is like my second home. It's so changed though. They are getting really old, my uncle is 89 and my aunt is 81. She's had like five hundred hip replacements (a slight exaggeration) and he just had a heart attack and can't walk more than ten steps before having to stop. They need lots of help, a lot more than they're getting. But of course my uncle refuses to move into town and my aunt won't leave him and so they're stuck here with her nagging him about everything and him being just deaf enough to pretend not to hear half of it. lol
Half the time here is spent eating, I swear. We've hardly cleaned up after breakfast when it's time to start preparing lunch and we've hardly swallowed lunch when it's time for afternoon tea and that is hardly over when you have to get started on dinner. I haven't spent so much time in the kitchen since never. I'm not cooking because I don't want to kill us all but just helping out and setting the table and then cleaning up and doing the dishes etc when there are 7 of us at every meal, it's a full time job. And then there is laundry and ironing (I thought hubby's eyes would fall out of his head when he walked in. I NEVER iron. If he needs his shirts ironed he does it himself.) Plus looking after the kids and making sure they don't kill each other. The girl brought a friend with her and ugh, I have to say this is not something I'm looking to repeat. I hadn't realized just how preteen ten year old girls can be when they get together. They're driving me nuts, they baffle the old folks with their smartmouths and constantly talking out of line and they're being mean to the little guy because 1) he's only six and 2) he's a boy. So not looking forward to the next 7-10 years if this is how it's going to be. Ugh.
I'm gonna need a vacation once I'm home from this one. *sighs*
family,
