And so I present to you one of the most pointless LJ posts of all time, besides the first paragraph. It centers almost entirely around my portable CD player with occasional references to the ways I used to be crazy as a little kid, which are interesting for me to compare to now. Be afraid. Be very afraid. Also, besides said first paragraph (after this one) you really should skip this post, lol. And yeah, I'm still trying to catch up with my friends, but my brain is just not co-operating, so I took a time out to work on a post since at least that's something and maybe it'll help me focus finally. I'm into the g's now, so look out h-k, a commenting rampage may be visited upon you soon, lol. Though of course first I really need to re-catch up with the people I've already done since it's already been a week or so and I don't want to lose any ground, for crying out loud...*sigh* it never ends. Dangit, if you people would just be a little less interesting...*grins*
I have been writing more often of late. It's been a while right now, but a lot more is getting done generally. I'm gonna buy a flash drive first chance I get to aid in that, seeing as our new computer and several of the ones at the library are too new to have floppy drives...and besides, that way I could keep some of my favorite music for writing to with me at all times, and transfer a large chunk of good stuff onto Mr. Lippertopper, which would be helpful.
I also need a new plug thingy for my A/C adapter so it can work with the semi-new portable CD player that I intend to switch over to. Sonato-domo (originally Sonato-kun--made by Sony, hence the name also inspired by sonat the Latin for sound and simply forcing sonata to have a masculine sounding ending--, but you'd better believe he's one of the few real-life things that can be said to have earned the title of domo...it's actually almost never used in Japan anymore outside of Anime, but seriously, Sonato deserves a medal for serving me faithfully for five-plus years now and never once quitting in spite of the big crack he's developed on the outside and on rare occasion being dropped while I'm listening to him on the swings or something and all sorts of other crud) needs to be retired. He has at long last on-and-off been making this rather worrying whirring noise, and I do not wish for him to die completely, truly I does not. I've gotten more attached to him than one should get to a simple material object, I rarely allow that to happen. I hate things that are so impractical. But my imagination comes back to bite me. When I was very young I would assign names and personalities to just about anything...it was just too much fun. I always thought those stories on children's TV shows about toys coming to life when you left the room were so stupid, because a. that obviously can't happen and b. if you were going to pretend something is alive, it was more fun to do it my own way, with my fingers or railings or any old thing (preferably something you'd always have with you, not some huge teddy bear *rolls eyes*), rather than what you were "supposed to". I guess Sonato is a last gasp of that, uh, tradition, lol. And yes, I am well aware of how weird I am, I think it's one of my better qualities in fact, lol.
So yes, seeing as we had another portable CD player (actually two) lying around that I think had been a Christmas present to one of us childrens (adult childrens, for those passing through, lol), or something like that, it seems silly not to use it, neh? But there's a problem. Firstly, the one of the two that I would have preferred to use quit working for absolutely no reason after the very first time I used it, for which I am very angry with it. I have no clue what happened, just the next time I wanted to listen to some music it simply wouldn't turn on. And unlike Sonato-domo it's not like it suffered a fall or any other trauma, which just brings out again how truly blessed I've been with him. So. The other basically-new-though-we've-had-it-a-while player has an LED display with a graphics equalizer and a clock and probably a bunch of other crud you completely don't need on a portable CD player, thank you very much *rolls eyes*, which I would guess is the reason that the estimated battery life is only eight hours, hence my not wishing to use it until I can plug it in. 'Snot worth that kind of money, never even mind about the huge stash of batteries we'd have to keep around to avoid running to the store for more all the freaking time. And so, until I can convince my lazy self to get on my bike, and yes, I have a bike again, an almost-new-used bike that we got for a great price, and we just finally were able to adjust the handle bars (the attempts to do so had stripped the bolt so it had to be replaced and it was a whole deal), so there's nothing keeping me anymore, and go to Radio Shack and buy a new plug-head-thingy for Mr. A/C Adapter, Sonato-domo presses on in honorable and workman-like service. And if you could actually follow that truly horrifyingly worded run-on brain-burst jumping from one thought to another sentence, you have my heart-felt admiration and congratulations. You're probably almost as crazy as me, and that's saying quite a lot (and all to the good if you ask me, lol). I'd also just like to point out that Sonato-domo's alleged battery life was fifty hours. Fifty...eight...there's a difference. And yes, I'd guess that's about accurate, though it's hardly like I timed it or payed all that much attention to it. He was expensive when we got him, I think about $100, no more than $120, but he so made up for it with the long battery life and overall reliability. At first it was six weeks before I had to change the batteries, later as I no longer had any other CD player in my room and had to rely solely on him and used him ever more often in situations where his shock protection was hard pressed, it could be more like two weeks if I listened to a whole lot of stuff...I'm willing to bet the time was shortened slightly as he aged and probably he became just slightly less efficient; I just noticed quite recently there's a bit of corrosion on one of the springs in his battery compartment, which can't help either...so yes, I say BAH!!! to stupid cheapy models with a bunch of frivolous bells and whistles.
End of rant. Again, hoping that I'll manage a real update soon, but no promises, mayhaps I shall make another attempt later tonight...er, this morning. And I shall continue to pick at catching up with y'all's fascinating doings.
