who thinks it was a particularly unfortunate decision to follow Bill Clinton's rousing speech with a musical interlude featuring Robert Palmer's Addicted to Love? What were they thinking?!
It wasn't the channel that was playing the song. It was in the convention hall! That's why I was so incredulous.
As you may have noticed from my previous post, I've been less than thrilled with network coverage of the convention, so I've been watching it on CNN dot ComThey've got a couple of live feeds where they pretty much turn on the camera and mike, then go away until the convention's over for the night. The camera crew hangs around so you get to see reaction shots as well as the podium. As a result, I've been able to see all the things that the networks didn't broadcast, including several very good speeches. And sly musical selections

I have been impressed with all the speeches! Everyone has been spot-on and the speeches are fulfilling their purpose(s). Everyone has been on their best behavior. I especially liked seeing the Obama daughters, on the same night Michelle Obama gave her speech, saying "hello" to their daddy on the big screen. It's wonderful to see political families with obvious love and caring for each other, with children who are respectful, authentic, and unselfconscious. We'll see what happens as they become teens, but I have confidence that they will grow into self-confident and well-spoken young women. Even if they grow up in the White House - may this be so
