Summer singing!
Man, this blog seems to be pretty fallow recently. I'd like to change that, but I haven't been terribly inspired to write much in recent months.
I did want to report, though, that I got offered an awesome summer singing contract for a music festival in upstate NY. It's an opera chorus job. The pay is good, and they provide food and housing on top of that. There's a week of music rehearsals in NYC, and then five weeks of staging rehearsals at the venue, followed by four performances. The schedule on rehearsal days is somewhat intense, but we also get lots of days off.
It's a pretty obscure opera- not one of the standard chestnuts. It has only been performed once in the US before, and that was in concert format; this performance will be the first fully staged one in the US. Based on the period it was written and what little I know of the composer, I think the music will be quite satisfying.
