I hate blog posts with no content other than a link to another article and some crappy commentary. Blogs are a place for creating new content, not rehashing someone else's work.
That said, I am violating my own rule by posting this link with my crappy commentary, because I think the article is useful. The topic is how to be a fiction writer, and the format is successful writers sharing their personal lists of do's and don'ts. Some of the ideas are entertaining, some practical, and some useless. But there were enough good ideas in there that I would like to keep track of the article. The ideas in it are applicable to many disciplines. I got inspiration and encouragement from reading it.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2010/feb/20/ten-rules-for-writing-fiction-part-one These were my favorite tips from the article:
- Only bad writers think that their work is really good.
- Try to think of others' good luck as encouragement to yourself.
- Don't wait for inspiration. Discipline is the key.
- It's doubtful that anyone with an internet connection at his workplace is writing good fiction.
