. . . And I'm Gonna Tell You Anyway. 'Cos
izhilzha said I have to.
Rules: Each player of this game starts off with 10 weird things/habits/little known facts about yourself. People who get tagged need to write a blog of their own 10 weird habits/things/little known facts as well as state this rule clearly. At the end you need to choose 10 people to be tagged and list their names.
Except I'm not gonna tag anyone. I have less than ten people on my f-list, most--if not all--of whom have been tagged already. You do the math.
1. I learned to read music at approximately the same time I learned how to read. Therefore, I cannot imagine not being able to read music any more than I can imagine not being able to read. I started piano lessons when I was in the first grade or thereabouts.
2. Two of my favorite hymns are “Be Thou My Vision” and “How Great Thou Art.” I also love a song called “Beautiful, Scandalous Night” (at least, I think that’s the title). I’ve only ever heard it at Wednesday night service at my home church, and I would be very grateful if someone were to help me get a hold of the sheet music.
3. I prefer to prep my coffee mug with the cream and sweetener before pouring in the coffee. It mixes better that way. I picked up this practice from the coffee drinkers I worked with at the PAC.
4. When I was growing up, one of my favorite holidays was Halloween. At that point in time, it was a fun kind of scary, not what it’s mutated into in the past several years. Also, my mom read a lot of Stephen King and enjoyed a good vampire story. I really shouldn’t be surprised that I like SPN as much as I do. Except I prefer “spooky” to straight-up horror and gore.
5. There were two movies I was raised never to see: Bambi and The Exorcist. Bambi because Bambi’s mother gets shot, and The Exorcist because of the demonic possession storyline. I have since seen Bambi. I have never seen The Exorcist, though I have seen one of the sequels (which was, btw, very creepy).
6. It’s been probably ten years or more since I’ve been “plinking” (my dad’s term for target shooting). I have recently thought that this needs to be remedied. I do much better with rifles than I do with pistols, and I particularly like lever-action rifles, though pump action is good, too. And if previous experience still holds, a 30.30 will about knock me on my behind. Which is why they’re such fun to shoot.
7. I love to dance. For some reason, this often surprises people. Any kind of dancing, really. Haven’t been square dancing since college. Haven’t done any reel dancing since grade school. Took ballroom dance in college, and Geo and I took lessons before our wedding. Weddings are good for all sorts of dancing, which is why I love them, if I can find someone to dance with. I’d really like to take belly dancing lessons, but I can’t find any around here.
8. I had braces when I was in 4th and 5th grades. Not the railroad tracks across my teeth, but a bridge-like appliance spanning the roof of my mouth. My best friend had to translate for me when I first got back to school after getting it put in.
9. When I was in sixth grade, I needed glasses, but I didn’t really want to admit or even acknowledge that possibility. I sat in the back of the room at a table with a kid named Jamie. He was one of those kids that most other kids didn’t really like because he was sort of unkempt. I liked him, though, because he read the board to me, which helped me keep my grades up. I remember him fondly.
10. I went on a mission trip to Honduras in the early 1990s. It was amazing, and I had a dream experience that just . . . I can’t really explain it here. Maybe some other time. (Not “dream” as a metaphor. An actual prescient dream.)
