Right now I am trying to choose someone to read on child discipline since my daughter is turning one and I am trying to get her to sleep in her crib now. She has been co-sleeping with me and nurses still. So far I am going more with the attachment parenting approach and I was thinking of reading William Sears books. He is a pediatrician and has eight kids with his wife and his wife is a doula/midwife and I think an RN too.
I am probably going to home school or parochial school my child. I don't think I learned anything I could actually apply to college in high school with the exceptions of language and public speaking. Of course I loved Orchestra and Science Fiction though. I think I remember a home schooled student who was in Orchestra with me though. I used to be really against home schooling until I met people who were home schooled. [Don't you think school looks like a weird word?] If I can think back, most of my learning was done at home doing homework.
I completely employed the tutoring program at my college, which I think I probably could have won an award for most use of it. It was like taking an extra class and another set of eyes that got me to think about my work in another way. I condensed all my classes (resembling high school) when I first began secondary school and got all Bs, but then I realized if I spread them out I could take more time after class to actually think about the material and get assignments done, which resulted in more As. Working helped me keep my mind active. I also was involved with more activities in the second half involving gym mainly (dance, water aerobics, etc). I pretty much went to every free lecture available also.
I should have remained in school instead of joining the AF. I definitely won't continue on to obtain an early elementary education or human services specializing in social work degree. Possible choices include: RN, nutritionist, midwife, business or farming.
