2014 Top Ten music

Dec 27, 2015 01:30

Damn! This was tougher than I thought. It was difficult to eliminate some from the Top Ten but in the end I had to go with relistenability - the ones that I didn't skip through when they popped up on random, the ones that I was always in the mood to hear regardless of mood or timing.

But first, the honourables in alphabetical:

Alt-J - This Is All Yours
Alvvays - Alvvays
Beck - Morning Phase
Bombay Bicycle Club - So Long, See You Tomorrow
FKA Twigs - LP1
Future Islands - Singles
Grouper - Ruins
The Horrors - Luminous
Hundred Waters - The Moon Rang Like A Bell
Interpol - El Pintor
Inventions - Inventions
Mac DeMarco - Salad Days
The Men - Tomorrow's Hits
Owen Pallett - In Conflict
SBTRKT - Wonder Where We Land
St. Vincent - St. Vincent
Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra - Fuck Off Get Free We Pour Light on Everything
TV On The Radio - Seeds
Ty Segall - Manipulator
Warpaint - Warpaint

Now on to the my favourites of 2014:

10. Sharon Van Etten - Are We There
9. Real Estate - Atlas
8. Elbow - The Take Off And Landing Of Everything
7. Death From Above 1979 - The Physical World
6. Kevin Drew - Darlings
5. Spoon - They Want My Soul
4. Dum Dum Girls - Too True
3. Sun Kil Moon - Benji
2. Caribou - Our Love
1. The War On Drugs - Lost In The Dream

My numbers one and two were pretty much set from the moment I first laid ears on them. Whenever I put Lost In The Dream on, whatever song comes up I am instantly somewhere else - staring out the window in the back of my Dad's car heading up Highway 69 on the way to the camp, sitting on a dock watching the sun set, tending to a fire in the moonlight, curled up watching a thunderstorm, bombing down a highway while the orange streetlights cast a glow on the road ahead. This record gave me and still gives me goosebumps. It is fucking brilliant.
