I finally went to see Suicide Squad. It's not as fun as some of the Marvel movies, but I also think it doesn't deserve Rotten Tamatoes' 26% score. I feel the plot of this movie is too simple, and the villains are too weak. But it does have a very memorable Harley Quinn.
Here I want to talk about Joker though. I feel Joker in this movie serves only one purpose - Harley Quinn's psychopathic love interest. Then I went to Twitter. Unsurprisingly, some die-hard Joker fans couldn't accept it. I saw a lot of RT of this:
"The Joker is not her love interest - he is her origin story. He is what formed her and made her the person she is today."
I wonder why I have not heard this said about Pepper in Iron Man movies or Lois Lane in Superman movies? It will be interesting to see reactions towards Steve Trevor when the Wonder Woman movie comes out next year.
Now back to Jared Leto's Joker. In this movie, he is just portrayed as those minor villains who cause trouble for "heroes", but he is never the real threat. I feel even Joker in Gotham (Fox's TV series) is better than Leto's Joker. Obviously Leto himself had to defend himself by saying a lot of his scenes were cut. Well, well, we shall see.
