More on HBO's Rome

I have watched three episodes of Rome Season 1 by now. The library discs have many scratches, so they cannot be played smoothly. I had to restart the disc player from time to time. Annoying!

I still found original characters like Lucius Virenus and Titus Pullo more watchable than the more famous characters, such as Caesar, Magnus or Mark Antony.

I am still in Season 1, 4 episodes to go. But if it has a good ending, great!

> I enjoyed the melodrama that was centurion Lucius Vorenus' life. It always caused his participation to major historical events. It was done naturally.

I noticed that. That's how you do with a fictional character set in a historical drama.

> Women are strong in this series, but after a time, I got annoyed with the fact that they are always vicious. Their portrayal of men is more nuanced. THey have flaws, but usually honor is important for them.

I guess because the stories of Rome happened thousands of years ago, I can watch it as a fantasy. So I am fine with evil female characters because I don't feel like they are close to real life.

The noblewomen in Rome were so fu*ked up that they made good entertainment. I actually laughed a lot watching them being evil. But at the same time, I also don't like Niobi that much. I only watched eight episodes. She seem to complain a lot.

In the Eagle fandom, it is different. In the book, Cottia is still a child. I feel she is not very grateful for what she got. She complained about her adoptive parents. But they put a roof above her and raised her. I just have no patience for this type of behavior. So I am quite happy that they just removed her completely in the movie. (There was actually a little girl playing Cottia, but the scene was cut)

Then there is The Eagle fandom. I understand why some writers want to add female characters. But dragging brave, rebellious red-head Cottia into fictions in order to create some drama could be boring after a while. And I am not so into 3P.

> I found there were no one to slash, even if we see strong friendships.

Same here. Lucius and Titus don't give me any slash vibe.

> Mark Antony was nice to look at, but it's not necessarily an eye-candy series.

He is attractive and they showed his cock;p But he is not what I will call an eye candy.
