Haywire BTS

Found these photos at Haywire's special operations technical advisor Aaron Cohen's IMDb page. The first one with Michael Fassbender is quite popular on tumblr. It even generated a McAvoy / Fassbender RPF. Since I am not into X-Men First Class, it's harder to ignore the flaws of the story.

So, Haywire will be released next Friday. The film company has put some efforts into promoting it. Both Channing and Ewan will be presenting at Golden Globe tomorrow. I guess they will be co-presenters.Chan will be presenting with Jessica Alba. They rehearsed on Saturday.

Also Ewan is on at least two magazine covers (GQ and Nylon Guys), Michael Fassbender is on Interview magazine, Channing will be on Details.

Reviews about the movie have been pretty good so far. People talked a lot about the realistic action scenes, esp. Soderbergh's decision of taking away music from the fight scenes. Maybe Merlin directors can learn a thing or two from him. Merlin's music is pretty good, but sometimes I feel the music is grander than the scene itself. The movie Retreat has the same problem. The music is intense, but the scenes are disappointing.

Back to Soderbergh's Haywire, both Ewan McGregor and some reviewers raved about that in chasing scenes, how clever Soderbergh was using music that one might hear out of classic '70s cinema, but with a contemporary flavor. I am eager to hear it. Another interesting thing about the movie is that Soderbergh used technology to deepen Gina's voice. If she is a real actress, she will probably feel insulted. Remember what they did to Audrey Hepburn in My Fair Lady? They dubbed her singing.

There will be three wide-releases next week.

Haywire, rated R, opens in 2000 theaters
Underworld Awakening (3D), rated R, opens in 2900 theaters
Redtails, rated PG-13, opens in 2500 theaters

I think the first two places at the box office will be either Haywire or Underworld 4 (3D). However, Haywire shows in less theaters than Underworld 4 and it does not have a 3D advantage. So let's wait and see the average box office per theater.
