There Are Dragons Who Don't Talk

I finally found time to see How To Train Your Dragon and I LOVE it. I always have a soft spot for geeks, and the main character Hiccup is just like that. What touched me most is his bond with Toothless (a dragon who doesn't talk, thank GOD). It is more heart-warming than the little romance between Hiccup and Astrid. (I guess romance is not the main theme of the movie anyway) Like a lot of heroes, Hiccup also has daddy issues. Gerard Butler did a pretty good job here voicing Hiccup's larger-than-life warrior father Stoick. There is one line in the movie I remembered clearly - Don't try to be someone you are not. I think we can all learn from that. There are also some breath-taking dragon-flying scenes. I regretted I didn't see it in 3D. The final battle is supposed to be the climax of the movie. However I am not that impressed. But I do find the ending a surprise. I don't want to spoil anyone here. Let's put it this way. There're consequences of being a hero. It's rare to see things like this in an animated film. It gives the film a touch of reality. Also I am looking forward to its sequel. I am sure there will be a sequel.

While watching the movie, I notice that although people in it are self-identified Vikings, they speak English with Scottish accents, and Gaelic music plays on the soundtrack. English is not my native tongue, so I don't make a big deal of it. It's like I don't find Colin Morgan's Northern Irish accent particularly attractive, Vikings speaking English with Scottish accent doesn't bother me that much either. However, sometimes I did find the dialogues hard to understand. Anyway, I'll wait for the blu-ray disc, then I can turn on subtitles.

Finally, I want to talk about the music. There's one track which plays when Hiccup and Toothless draw lines on the groud. I found it on iTune. The track is called "Forbidden Friendship". I really like it. (Listen to / dowloiad it here). I can use it for an A/M fanvid.

PS, I just checked this week's box office. The fifth week since its release (in North America), How To Train Your Dragon returns to #1. \o/
