stolen from a random xanga

so i'll say this now b4 you all read... bc i dont know if you'll read all the way :) but i dunno bout all this? which is why i'm posting it here... i could go either way... they are good in a lot of aspects... and then everything written from this xanga are what i've been thinkin... soooo, yeah...

1) Social clubs are stupid because, for the most part, they all claim to have the same goal in mind. "Just a bunch of Christian girls/guys trying to be a light for Christ." Well that's all true and good, and I am not trying to discount there efforts to that end. However, now I pose the question, can a group that, by its very nature, excludes certain people based on subjective judgment and in an organized way at the same time claim to be working towards Christian ends? Second of all, why do we even need seperate social clubs to reach the same goals? Because people want to use spirituality as yet another forum for forming exclusive social groups of people.

At this point I would like to say that I am not against clubs that exist for purely social reasons. All I'm saying is that I don't appreciate the use of Christ to further a social agenda.

2) Social clubs are stupid because they are attempting to diversify at a school where people are for the most part the same. Let's just be honest about this one. 90% of Harding's student body is middle to upper class white and conservative Christian. So as I see it, college republicans should be the only justified club on campus. (That was what I like to refer to as sarcasm.) So, what you end up with is, basically, a system with two different clubs with several different jerseys. In one "club" you have Titans, Kappa Sigs, Pikes, Theta Psi, Ko Jies, Ju Go Ju, Tri-Kappa, etc... In the other "club" you have TNT, Gamma Sigs, Chi Sigs, Knights, Zeta Rho, Pi Theta Phi, Regina, etc... They are all the same club with different jerseys. Of course they differ in miniscule and insignificant ways, but for the most part they are the same, and if you really stop and actually think instead of getting mad and defensive, you'll realize that I am correct.

3) Social clubs are stupid because they want to have their cake and eat it to. Pledge week is the funniest time on campus because one group of people are wanting to be a part of this "spiritual" club that treats them like garbage and another group of people are trying to twist their worldview enough to justify treating people like garbage in the name of Christ. And then to make things even funnier there is the third group of people who are running around saying "How is this being a light for Christ?" It is just a really funny chain of events to watch unfold because what we end up with is a halfway point, in which nobody really wins, and everyone is displeased with pledge week. Those who are wanting to treat people like garbage are dissappointed. Those who want to see people treated kindly are dissappointed. And those who wanted in because they thought social clubs were awesome are dissappointed. See how funny that is?

So I propose that we quit having this halfway system of social clubs. We should either call them "spiritual" clubs and let everyone in that wants in and be nice to them too; get rid of them all together (which is my personal vote); or let them actually be social clubs and let them have social ends in mind without feeling the need to make every thing spiritual.
