What to do about tonsillitis?
Do you find what you need? Look here!
What to do about tonsillitis?I have tonsillitis. I was sick last week, with flu-like symptoms. Those have all cleared up but my throat got worse. I've been to three different doctors and had three different strep tests. They all came back negative. Each doctor told me that it was viral, so they will not give me an antibiotic. I already had mono years ago, so it is unlikely being cause by that. My primary doctor gave me prednisone to take for three days for swelling. While that definitely helps with the pain, I have an incessant cough that keeps me up at night.
My questions are, does anyone know anything about viral tonsillitis, i.e. how long it lasts, what to do about symptoms, how dangerous it is, etc... and is there a way to soothe my cough at night? I've tried over-the-counter drugs and a cool mist machine, but nothing works.

Viral tonsilitis is a self limiting condition. It lasts for about 3-5 days. The treatment is symptomatic.Use any cough syrup not expectorant.
can't say
I had tonsillitis twice this year. Both times I think I was prescribed Amoxicillin I think. You take 2
order cialis the first day, then 1 tablet for 4 or 5 day. I don't think it worked that well this last time, but after waiting it out, I got better. Doctors don't like to prescribe it for viruses since it doesn't help much and your body can get used to antibiotics if you take too much of them so they won't help you get better if your body gets immune to them. They really are doing you a favor by keeping them from you.
Make sure you drink lots of water, eat yogurt (in case you have a bit of bacteria that could be causing the problem), eat chicken soup, get lots of rest. If you need to take a day or two off work/school to get better, go for it.
Your body is fighting off the enemy so you are going to feel crappy until you get better. Waiting it out and taking ibprofin and maybe some over the counter medicine might help with the symptoms.

Suze, the VERY BEST thing you can do is see an ENT (Ear Nose & Throat) surgeon.
As you can see, you are no better off even though you have been to different gp's.
A specialist will be able to determine whether or not you need a tonsilectomy to prevent further recurrences of your illness.
Tonsilitis can poison your entire system if it's not taken care of.
