Well it works like this... everything you do as an individual is 'normal'. Therefore if you spend your life both smoking and selling drugs it becomes perfectly natural to assume that everyone has the same view on drugs as you do. To the extent that you can really, really, really fail the basic reality test of not pointing out your drug use/business to the police.

I still remember the 'Social Club' just off Charing Cross Road in London. Big but illegal club, right in central London. Had two bars, three dance floors and a dodgy staircase on the top floor that you walked up to to score (handed your cash through a letterbox in proper deadbeat stylee). Worth pointing out that, although illegal and choc full of some dodgy types, was still one of the most relaxed clubs I have ever been in. Zero acts of violence or problems - at least that I ever saw (I still have my membership card somewhere).

It was also the site of the biggest drugs raid in UK history (about two hours before I was planning to go down there again). It was really obvious that several of the characters wandering around being 'youth culture types' were blatantly old bill. Turns out they were building up a catalogue of evidence.

There was a point to this story but the flashbacks and the spiders robbed me of it.

I like stories...
