Golfing with dinosaurs, muscle amnesia and friends of Puglia
Went over to wascally_weasel's place yesterday. Rupert had come up and we were going crazy golfing. It was a good laugh, with waterfalls, semi-animatronic dinosaurs and sound effects. I especially liked the large herbivore set upon by velociraptors, with just a bored, stoical, patient expression on its dinosaur face.
Then we went to a pub to shoot some pool. Good fun, but it had been a while since WW and I have played. We used to be better at the game, but we were out of practice. Couldn't work out how we were missing easy shots till we realised that our muscle memory of playing pool in pubs had gone over the years and we were misjudging distances or angles or how much power to use.
I scooted off at five, as I had an evening engagement. My ex-colleague Roberto had invited privatep32 and I to a party hosted by his society for ex-pats of his Italian region. Held at a restaurant run by people from Puglia. Lots of delicious buffet food - the cheese with chilli was particularly good, as were the several varieties of ham. Also lots of strong, rich Puglian red wine. The festival, according to Roberto, is to mark the opening of the first bottle of wine from that summer's grape crop. Roberto was having a great time - he's very proud of Puglia, and he's wanted to hold a do like this at least as long as I've known him. He introduced us to various people as friends of his. Not "friends of ours", I noticed...
