Tring, Wing and Ivanhoe...

That old rhyme's where Walter Scott found the name Ivanhoe for everyone's favourite trueborn Saxon knight (though we all know it's Bois-Gilbert and Rebecca who are the cool kids in that story).
On Tuesday, I picked up the loan of a bike for a month from the main university site up the road. They were part-sponsoring a scheme, along with Islington council, to lend employees bikes so they could try using them to commute etc. I had elected to go for a folder, on advice from wascally_weasel. So I picked up a shiny new black Dawes Ace, complete with panniers, helmet, lock etc. I noticed it had a bell, and rang it. It went; "tring!".
Then after work I was to "wing" it to Tring itself (near Ivinhoe/Ivanhoe), to lend inkognitoh a hand with moving her newly-acquired narrowboat down the canal from Northampton marina to London.
It was raining like mad most of the time, and pretty muddy when I had to get out and operate the locks, but it was actually pretty cool. Everything's cooler when seen from a boat. Can see why Inkoh's so taken with this life, and with her lovely new vessel.
Boat was moored at Berkhamsted, and I took a train back to London.
On my way home, my trainer slipped on a station underpass (probably due to water and towpath mud), and I fell sprawling. Banged my knee, which got sore and swelled up. That would be "the striking of a blow".
Missed first softball league match yesterday because of it. we won by default, apparently, as the opposition had players cancel due to the rain. Well, that's three points on the board at any rate.
Had an e-access meeting at work this morning, at main site. Was annoying that I had a handy little bicycle folded up in the office, which would have been just the thing to get to it on had I not had a right knee the size of a softball...
