(no subject)

Went to see the Gothic Nightmares exhibition this afternoon.  I don't know why, but it always seems to rain on me when I go to the Tate.  kittensbroadway was having the bus journey from hell, and ended up wet, miserable and late - we were going to meet at four, but it was almost five when she got there.  So we didn't have time for anything other than the exhibition itself (well, I'd had time to look at some of my favourites, including this one, while waiting for KB).
The exhibition was fun - interesting how sensationalist so much of the gothic art was, and how downright mad.  I found the Gillray cartoons cool, and liked the Fuselis.  The more sexually explicit drawings were behind a discreet curtain, and one had a caption which said, to paraphrase only slightly; "is this art? Is it porn?  We don't know either...".  There was a "phantasmagoria" show, which left us thinking; "Boy, they must have been chuffed when cinema was invented, if that was all they had before".
We had a drink at the White Swan afterwards, and a chat.  I'm sure the White Swan used to be a better pub - but then, it's probably been ten years since I was last there.

pubs, art, rain
