Didn't make it to the quiz on thursday - dropped in at the Renegades' get-together at the
Stanhope Arms, and stayed there all evening. Decent pub, the Stanhope.
We met Biblio who's here from the US on business, and befriended (and bemused) a young American Republican. It's scary how ignorant of the world abroad even educated people can be - it took some doing to explain the difference between "England" and the UK to him, and convince him that most of Ireland is a foreign country.
I realised that I waas going to miss the last train, and agreed to go on to a late bar Alex26 knew about - it was cool, but I regretted it yesterday - tired & hung-over at work.
Yesterday evening I met up with ex-colleagues from Middle Temple, in what must surely be the last of my MA celebration drinkses. went to
Hodgson's wine bar. Can't walk into a wine bar without thinking of
Lister's "class traitor" speech from Red Dwarf. I had to nurse my wine - still fragile from Thursday. Somehow, though there were a bunch of friends there, I didn't feel too comfortable - the conversation was all houses and properties and stuff. I learned that Tiffany and her husband and son are now living in California and doing very well ("here's what you could have won...").
Cold, clear day today. I think I'll go for a walk in the park, then maybe go shopping in Croydon.
