Stop! Listen. Can you hear it. That's the sound of Life's turn signal. That sound notifies everyone in the vehicle that Life is about to turn and change directions, brace yourself. The passengers are at the mercy of the one who is driving. They must trust must trust the driver and the driver's motives. When that trust is lost the ride can become a nightmare. Blue and his sisters have a mother they don't know any more. They saw her break and then change. They know she is not connected to them or what they are experiencing.
You've done very well at expressing their feelings and fear. It's great how he can read his sister so well. He seems adept at reading people anyways. At first when I had finished reading I was relieved that nothing bad had happened to Blue. But then as I reflected on Blue and his life's experiences, I was clearer about Blue's terror here. Then my heart sank for him and his sisters. I can see why someone would invent a Never-Never Land to escape into and never want to come out. Reminiscent of The Never Ending Story. Where's Falcor when we need him?
