Working out with a partner

Okay. So the workout routine I do now is the one I got from a fitness instructor, whom I PAID to tell me what to do. I like working out alone, I never really need a spot and I'm still increasing in weight across the board.

So, a couple weeks ago at my volleyball league I bumped into a guy who goes to my gym, and we introduced ourselves. So, next time I went to the gym and saw him I said hi and met the guy he always worked out with. Turns out, though, that he won't be working out there anymore because he found a gym closer to home, so his buddy says "well, I need someone to work out with now... you always here?" Of course I don't lie and say yes, so that was the nail in the coffin.

Today I worked out with him for the first time, and it was nice because he said he wanted to do everything in my usual routine... but next time, he wants to change everything up. "You shouldn't do the same thing every time," he said, which is exactly what my instructor explicitly TOLD me to do.

So... what the hell do I say? I hate letting people down, especially because he's a pretty damn cool guy.
