yuletide letter!

Dear Awesome Yuletide Writer,

First of all, thank you! Thank you so much for taking on this challenge and writing a story for me - I will totally love any story you write, so please, do not fret! That would be my one big post-actual-request request: that you, lovely Yuletide writer, not worry too much about this, because I know I will love anything you come up with.

I understand that the details I included in my requests are totally, completely optional and I am not expecting you to write a story that contains any/some/all of what I rambled on about. For each fandom, I tried to give a few potential story ideas, but please don't feel bound by them. I included them in the hopes that if you needed a jumping-off point they would be helpful, but if you have something different in mind, go for it! Also, some of my requests feature characters that have either canonically been in a relationship or who I'd be interested to see exploring some kind of a romantic relationship, but if you aren't feeling those relationships as romances, then I'm okay with gen fics featuring any of these characters.

General Story Things I Like: hopeful endings, people making connections with each other, yearning, banter, people trying to be the best versions of themselves (and succeeding or failing).

General Story Things I Don't Go For: cruelty, abuse, incest.

In conclusion: Thank you again, Yuletide writer! You are awesome!

Request 1: Defiance (TV) Joshua Nolan, Irisa Nyira, Alak Tarr, Amanda Rosewater

Request Details: I really liked the hints that Irisa and Alak were growing closer over the course of season 3, and I'd love to see a glimpse of where their life goes after the series finale. Baby Luke is more than welcome, as are any other Defiance characters. If Alak and Irisa don't interest you, how do Amanda and Irisa cope with life without Nolan? Do they grow closer? Does Irisa help Amanda find peace, or does Amanda hold onto her belief Nolan will return - and is she proven right? How does Nolan cope on his journey without the two women (two people, really) most important to him? I'd love to see any of these ideas explored, but I'd also love to see anything you're interested in exploring, too! Glimpses of Nolan and Irisa's past, and how they came to be the loving father/daughter we met them as, would work for me as well. A story about Nolan returning and what he finds the same and what's changed would be interesting to me as well.

I'm interested in really any permutations of the above characters, and any one or combination of prompts I mentioned above.

Additional Notes: Now that we know the show isn't coming back, I would just love to spend a little more time with these characters. My one strong request is that the Nolan/Irisa relationship be depicted as a complicated but loving father/daughter relationship, not a romance.

Request 2: A Little Life - Hanya Yanagihara Willem Ragnarsson, Jude St. Francis

Request Details: I tore through this book in a little more than a day and then spent the next few weeks going back to read my favorite passages which, as you might guess given my request, almost always featured Jude and Willem. I loved their relationship and would particularly like a glimpse of their college friendship, little things like: getting snowed in and watching a terrible movie; eating bad food in the dining hall; helping each other with assignments. If that period doesn't work for you, I'd be happy with a glimpse of their relationship in their later years as well - my only request is that it not be too bleak.

Additional Notes: I'm now realizing that my request details are unintentionally revealing in that you can see the kind of WILD AND CRAZY college student I was (getting snowed in? helping each other with homework? dining hall time? I'm surprised I didn't mention having them work on balancing a checkbook or playing Scrabble - actually, I might be into that second idea, now that I think of it...), but the truth is, that really is the kind of story I would like to read! Quiet and true to their good, tentative, damaged hearts. I am a gigantic sap, basically, is what I'm telling you. But if you were drawn to the book and these two characters for other reasons, then I am definitely open to any kind of thoughtful exploration of their relationship.

Playing House (TV) Tina Rodriguez, Zach Harper

Request Details: I heard someone mention on a podcast that they thought these two would be perfect for each other, and it was like lightning striking - they WOULD be perfect for each other! I would love to read a story about these two characters connecting; if you don't buy into the pairing, a friendship would work as well. Also, if you got paired on this because you selected "Any" and never imagined someone would request these two particular characters, please know that I truly love this show and all of the characters on it, and so would be happy with a gen story set in the universe of the show that's true to the spirit of the show - sweet, uplifting, funny. Here's a few prompts: A Christmas story always works for me (secret santa, maybe?); Zach and/or Tina find themselves needing a place to stay and end up neighbors/possibly roommates; trivia night creates unlikely foes or allies among the Playing House gang.

Additional Notes: This is another case where I love the source material so much that I am up for just about anything - the Tina and Zach selections were more a reflection of something that had been kicking around in the back of my mind for the last couple of months. But if you find you'd rather give equal or greater focus to other Playing House characters, I will definitely be happy with anything you come up with.

yuletide
