We met my aunt and her husband for dinner tonight at the Japanese place near where we live.
We gave her the iPad we got her for her 75th birthday. Yes, that was almost 4 months ago. But, she wouldn’t come out of her house in the snow.
You can see how much she liked it as she pushed it to the side to read the menu...
(It’s the green cover off to the right.)
She did like it a lot. She seems a bit worried about being dropped into the 21st century, but she’s been living here for more than a dozen years.
We did hear all sorts of family gossip. My uncle (this aunt’s brother) has been in the hospital since November with some sort of massive infection. His wife now has full blown dementia and keeps calling the police to tell them she’s been kidnapped. They reassure her that it is a nursing home and she is supposed to be there. The next day, another call.
Their son who is a doctor keeps giving instructions for medications from his Navy base in California, but he gives them to his sister who did not concentrate on medical knowlege in her life, so instructions get muddled. Her concentration on dating hockey teams does not seem to have equipped her well for dealing with older parents.
Their oldest daughter, the one who is adopted, apparently stepped it and got it all straightened out.
“Thank God they adopted her 50 years ago or they’d all be screwed,” I said.
Apparently the nursing home where all of this is going on is the one only 5 miles from me. I drive by it twice a day to and from work.
Maybe I should visit? Not sure about that.
The chef seemed to resent not being the center of attention so went big with the fire.
But, the food was good, and my aunt was happy.
So, it worked out.
