Visiting the eye doctor

This year, again, my vision has been getting bad.
Not at all like 7 years ago. That was areas of my vision that are just gone. While that is much better than it was, there are still areas that just aren’t there for me.

This is like looking through a foggy window. The amount of fog can change from day to day and is worse in the left eye than the right, but it has been getting much worse lately.
It’s quite bad in my left eye, and growing in my right.

I had an appointment with my eye doctor in July, but it was cancelled suddenly and I had to reschedule for today.

I was happy that the very first thing they did was take my visual field to check on the nerve damage. While I waited for those results they made my pupils big.

I explained to the young man examining me about my vision problems.
"Sounds like a cataracts," he said to me.
"It is almost exactly what my father described to me 50 years ago when he had his problem with them," I said. "But, I have some worry about it being the results of my being diabetic or more nerve damage."
"Let me look."
He pulled the instruments in front of me and looked into my left eye.
"That’s a juicy one," he said, not very loud.
"I am unacquainted with that diagnosis," I said. "Is that bad or good?"
"It’s certainly cataracts, not either of the other two. And, it does look my bigger in the left eye."
"Good."
"I’m not sure it’s good."
"It’s better than the other two."

The vision field came back 1% better than last year. As the doctor said last year, there is a bit of variation, but it is mainly steady. Especially if you don’t zoom in the results.

When I saw the doctor he confirmed the nerves look good, no swelling, no signs of any new issues.
He doesn’t do cataracts any more, and sent me to one of his partners who I’ll meet with next month to go over this stuff.
Hopefully it will all work out.
