This week’s practice & exploding shows

Aug 14, 2023 06:10

It was a very small practice this week.
Me, my wife, the two new folks and Carlos.
So, I didn’t get any photos worth posting as I was doing stuff the whole time.
That’s not a bad thing, but I do like to get photos too.

While there at practice I did call the organizer for the show next month as there has been total silence from him since June when he asked me to apply for the show we’ve been doing for the last 5 years.
He told me that they decided to cancel this year as there wasn’t much interest.
They wanted a minimum of 20 vendors, they had 14 and not all of them had committed.
The guy who did the food for the last year not only quit, but went to their organization and said they should all resign as they’re incompetent.
And, the pirate group we do the show with that has the fire performance license said they weren’t sure they wanted to do the show this year, which would very much complicate doing the fire show.

They say they’ll try again next year. But, if they managed to keep it going through the Covid years, but can’t get it together now, I don’t have much hope of next year. And, the organizer is in his 80’s with health issues, so that won’t be better in 2024…

Our friend’s regular game night was going to be the night before this show. So, I’ve arranged with him to do the fire show there. It will be a smaller crowd than we’d have had the next day in New Hampshire, but we’ll still get a performance that weekend. (And, it will be a lot closer to home…)

The same friend heard me say I was hoping to perform on my 60th birthday two months after that. So, he told me to come perform in his yard that day too.
I feel bad with a pity show.
But, when I turned 50 I did talk folks I knew into letting me do a show in their yard. They were already having a party that day, so it wasn’t quite as much pity.
And, that year it fell on a Saturday, not a Thursday, so it made more sense.
I do like performing…
Pity isn’t so bad…
