Vacation part 3, Castles to walls

Mar 25, 2023 13:09

We had planned to go back to the market on Saturday, but decided we had spent enough money there and would do something else on Saturday.
We started with breakfast.

My wife explored the hotel some while we made other plans.

We settled on doing laundry as we had been away for 6 days and could use some clean clothes. We settled on a laundry that got good reviews on Google across Coventry from where we were.

We were recommended to the cafe next door while it ran, and were glad for the second breakfast.

We decided to go to Warwick Castle once we were done.
The parking was in the "auxiliary lot" which was a kilometer, uphill, from the castle.

But, it was a pretty walk.

It is an impressive castle.

I was glad to be at the top of the hill.

The first thing in is a shop!

My wife loves castles and we had a good time roaming about.

The wall walk is impressive, but has a LOT of stairs.

The top of "Guy’s tower" is a good ways up.

I’m sure this is just a precaution…

Good views

Then, down a bit to cross to the next tower.

I fit most places

Still fun climbing about.

And, great views.

There was stuff in the towers too.

I was happy to finish and get a drink. (They had diet coke there. Not everyone carries that…)

Then, more roaming about.

Then, out the way we came.

My wife wanted her photo with the castle mascot.

Then, back to the hotel with our clean clothes.

My wife had trouble with the facilities, but they always worked for me…

We decided to walk through the gardens and the park next to the hotel.
But, we had trouble figuring out how to get out to the park.

Eventually I just went in and asked. They sent someone out to unlock the gate for us.

The gardens and park are quite nice.

Eventually we went back to the hotel and its bunnies.

Some folks were tired…

Next morning, breakfast and then off.

We stopped at a service area along the motorway and I was surprised to see they had gambling in them.

But, having spent enough money, we continued on.

We met our friend PeterB for lunch. It’s been years since we saw him in person. It was a nice visit and I’m glad he was able to join us, even if we were there on Mother’s day. (I’m sure he visited his mother after we got back on the road…)

Then, north!

We decided to go see the wall before stopping for the night.

We found it eventually.

Then, back to town for the hotel.

The hotel was very nice. As far as I can tell it was run by a pack of 4 or so dogs.

And, they expected us for dinner.
