Vacation part 2, Reenactor’s market

Mar 25, 2023 12:13

We got up at the airport hotel in London Friday morning.

The hotel is next to an airport, a river, a train line and several roads. It seemed like a good place to get out of town.

It was interesting to see the Thames barrier.

I’m not sure about the window washing…

I had to walk back to the airport to get our car.

Then, we headed out of town. Google said it should be a 2 hour drive, we wanted to be there at noon and left at 8:30.
Should be no problem. But, we kept going down the small roads with bad traffic and our ETA moved father and father back until it was 11:55 and we were still in London.

I thought maybe it was taking us around traffic accidents or something, but that was proven wrong.

Then, we found the phone was set for "avoid highways".
It was reset, we got on the M1, and got there an hour in advance.

We were able to pay and get the directory before they officially opened so had a plan for when the door opened. There were two buildings, both pretty full of suppliers.

My first stop was a place that had the kind of hat I liked at 1/2 the price I pay in the US.

And, one of my favorite dagger makers was there.

I got some nice pieces.

I bought the one he told me the story about. I’m sure that’s coincidence…

Eventually we decided we had filled our suitcases and headed out.

Then, off to the hotel I had booked that was in an old abbey nearby.

We found it no problem, no hedgehogs blocked out way, despite the signs.

It is very pretty.

But, the front desk person’s handwriting was such that we went to the wrong room. (We were in 64, but both of us read it as 66.)

The room was old fashion and quite decorated.

We had dinner at the hotel and it was very nice.

Lots of (non)talking heads.
