What I'm Reading Now:
Scarlet by Marissa Meyer. I enjoyed Cinder last year, but I have to say, I’m liking Scarlet’s story even more. She has even more spunk than Cinder, and Wolf is a lot more intriguing (and questionable!) than Kai.
What I'm Reviewing Next: Finished
Emma: An Annotated Edition. It’s the biggest book by far in terms of page length, but it seemed like I finished it in days-and I was trying to take my time, too! I’m a big fan of Bharat Tandon’s annotations; he mixes the historical (19th century British customs) with the contemporary (the 1995 “adaptation” Clueless) with a light touch. I’ve already ordered
Sense and Sensibility, the next book in the series.
I also read
Enchanted by Alethea Kontis, which I had high hopes for…but didn’t exactly pan out.
What I'm Reading Next:
Call the Midwife by Jennifer Worth (originally called The Midwife: A Memoir of Birth, Joy, and Hard Times). I just finished watching season two of the PBS miniseries, which has flown under the radar thanks to Downton Abbey.
Of Beast and Beauty by Stacey Jay also arrived from the library, so guess I’ll be reading fairy tale retellings for the near future.
I’m also of a mind to start
War and Peace now that I’m done with Emma (for my Classics Challenge), but I started to have second thoughts when the introduction started to say something along the lines of: “It doesn’t have a traditional narrative plotline…” Lengthy Russian novel and non-traditional storyline? Uh oh…
What Caught My Eye Recently:
Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell, though I still have to read Eleanor & Park.
The Coldest Girl in Coldtown by Holly Black. Got the galley a few weeks ago, but now that it’s actually October and nearing Halloween, I may give this vampire tale a try.
