Going to Robert Moses State Park is one of our family summertime traditions. We get up crazy early, drive two hours out to Long Island's South Shore, and spend the day there. Mostly we barbecue a ton of food, read a book and relax, but if the ocean surf isn't too rough, sometimes we go for a dip. I also love going to this particular park because there's an easy mile-long walk to the lighthouse at the very end that winds through the dunes and beachgrass. Although one section was closed--I guess due to damage from Hurricane Sandy--the rest was just like it used to be. While I love going to see new places, there's something special about going back to a particular place each year; it's like visiting an old friend.
Spot the deer! We also saw a mama deer and her two fauns by the side of the road; the fauns jumped about a mile high every time they saw a car.
