I have officially decided that a concert is not at all good if you don't leave it with your voice hoarse and your legs aching from dancing the whole time.
Granted, I have only been to two concerts in my lifetime, but I think they've been pretty damn good ones: the shamelessly pop extravaganza that was Spice Girls, and now this, the No Doubt reunion tour. I bought the tickets for me and my sister before our Dad passed away, and he kept joking with us that he'd somehow sneak his way in or at least watch from the beach, since the venue was outdoors. Well, I know he had way better seats than we did, because the show--the whole three hours--was awesome.
Paramore opened for them, and usually opening acts are not that memorable, but they had me singing along. And I only knew a handful of songs, certainly much fewer than some of the teenagers I saw in the crowd. Every time a song ended, I would nudge my sister in the ribs and demand, "Where's the Twilight song?!??" But what do you know, they played that too. Is it too embarrassing that I rocked out to that the most? Okay, we'll just gloss over that then.
But when No Doubt came on...holy cow. Gwen Stefani is a singing machine--a fierce-looking one at that. I think at one point my mind was boggled at the fact that she has two kids AND a serious six pack. Like, really? I can't pinpoint a favorite number, but any song from The Tragic Kingdom album was just off the wall. I was surprised by the songs from the lesser known Rock Steady album--the infusion of reggae makes it surprisingly good to dance to. I'm so glad I saw that concert advertisement randomly one day in February, for who knows when No Doubt will play together again. All I know is, it'll still be hella good.
Rocking out to Paramore
Right before No Doubt took the stage. Going to a concert near the beach and under the open night sky was cool beyond words.
She just never stopped
Thank you technology for jumbo screens
