On driving

So now that I'm back to unemployment, or as I like to think of it, semi-vacation, I have two goals.  One, find a job.  Two, while finding a job, learn how to drive.

I clicked on the first chapter of the online manual and my eyes are already glazing over.  Plus I have to sit in on a five hour class?  o_0

I like to think of myself as an adaptable person, at-ease in almost any environment, but my inability--no, unwillingness--to learn how to drive is my one streak of New York pride.  Why drive when there's always traffic?  When there's the subway?  When cars and gasoline and car insurance cost even more money?  I've always thought of driving as similar to  your appendix:  you don't need it (in a city environment), and you're probably better off without it.  AND, I'm leaving behind less of a carbon footprint.

Plus, it isn't encouraging to learn when you have an overprotective father--overprotective of the family van, that is.  My mom has a license, but I don't think she's been behind the wheel of our car once.  A guy thing?  I don't know, I've never been able to figure out.

But since 2009 is the Year of Being Open to More Things, and that's on my to do list.  Learn how to drive.  So, clear the road, folks.  I'm going to be behind the wheel.

After this blizzard, of course.  Don't need to add ice and slush to the mix of road hazards.  :P
