Self racial discrimination
Everyone's been guilty of it at some point, in fact we do it on a daily basis. Racial Discrimination.
But I guess what separates pure discrimination be it racial, religion, or culture stems from the level of education bestowed. As I see it, the more learned you are, the more open one's mind is to other forms of culture. We must remember though that not all are as fortunate to have a higher state of education.
Having come from a middle class family upbringing, national medium schooled, and even received tertiary education in an overseas environment has cultivated a sense of openness within my mind. I digress though that not all forms of western culture is agreeable to me. Having said that, I'd wish some of my Asian friends would embrace the positive side of western culture as well; the ability of questioning authority, thinking for yourselves, independence, emancipation. On the other spectrum, I still hold the Asian values of respecting your elders and filial piety close to me.
Where am I getting at? Oh yeah, I am actually pondering on why some Chinese do discriminate against their own kind? The other races do it too, until I notice a common thread running through; the level of education. It seems that we look down upon those who don't have the fortune to be educated and open minded. The 'uneducated ones' can only think from a particular standpoint, narrow visioned, and not open. I beg to differ that, that these people can't be deemed as stupid either, its just that they are not that learned yet.
But then there are those who have a taste of education (not even completed) but have the superficiality that they are educated from the rest. And that they can still discriminate their own race as being backwards and non progressive. Well the only person is really backwards and being non progressive are the critics themselves. The level of superficiality is horrendous, surrounding yourself with high tech gadgetry, luxury materials, yet you still listen to the same music the 'backwards' one are listening, speak their same language too. So what gives? They have their own lives to live, albeit simple.
Humble values are truly missing from these superficial people.
