Baking

I baked last Sunday. It was one of those days when the fridge and the kitchen looked half empty and I was dying to eat something sweet and sinful. I ransacked the fridge first and ended up throwing out 2 types of expired cheese. The chesadale sliced cheese and the mossie cheese. I was checking out the butter expiry date when it suddenly occurred to me that I have not once use the new baking oven I bought in Dec or the new stick-type chopper/mixer/blender (i bought that after seeing how MF used that to blend veggie for her daughter's meal. It just looked like so much fun then.).

So I gathered all other basic ingredients and the baking instructions for sponge cake with strawberry jam.. (yes, i know , i know. I am not supposed to but I did improvise the recipe to make it into a butter cake. So much about rule #1: follow the instructions 100%) But then, I remembered how my friend, angela (who went to NYC to study baking and actually became a dessert chef at one of the leading hotel in Sg before) told me that some published recipes were NEVER tested before they went into print. So I decided, what the heck...

I must say it was one of the ugliest looking cake ever, it was totally burnt on top but not fully baked inside.. so I had to let the already top-burnt cake baked a bit longer to cook the insides of the cake. Once I removed the burnt cake from the oven, I had to use a knife to scrap off the burnt top layers. The positive note is the cake tasted much better than it looked! :) I was tempted to take a picture but decided I should do so in my next attempt. haha.
