Good evening, everyone!
Well, to make up for missing any updates yesterday, today's going to be espically filled with all of the AWESOME experiences that I went through. Wednesday wasn't very eventful--until the evening. We have an event that we're practicing for (and I have to SING for *scared*), so we spent about 6 hours yesterday singing and dancing and blocking the show for Friday. I'm not really sure that I'm ready, but we're spending more time on it tomorrow, so we'll see where it goes.
The evening, however, was super SUPER fun! Another sign of how language and cultural barriers really are so small when you're joining together for a common purpose. As one of the assignments during the week, we had to create a "family flag" that represents things about ourselves/about our "family" while we've been here. I can't believe that it's only been 5 days and I've done SO much with them--all represented on the beautiful flag. I'll post the picture up soon, but in the mean time, feel free to look at the other awesome pictures that I have up on Facebook :D Anyway, last night was spent playing, watching TV, eating an awesome meal, working on our flag, eating ice cream, and finally trying on Kimonos!! It was super fun and my mother and sister seemed to enjoy dressing me up quite a lot XD Then my father became the "camera man" as he called it and made me do a photo shoot. So yes--fun fun all around. And then a BIG surprise at the end was the fact that they GAVE me the kimono to take back to the states!! Utterly amazing--but it doesn't stop there!
Guess what they did for me today? I went with my father to a Seven Eleven (they're EVERYWHERE) a few days back and saw some pokemon things but wasn't able to buy it...So what do I see in the seat I usually sit in on the way back home today? The pokemon stuff I was looking at the other day!! They'd bought it for me. ;o; I don't know how in the world I'm going to thank them for all the awesome things they've done and are continuing to do for me while I'm here...I feel like I can't even express nearly as much as I feel towards them. Especially since tonight they took me to my sister's Taiko (a Japanese drum) lesson and the instructor allowed me to play!! It was extremely awesome and a great tradition to see. Everyone was so friendly and awesome!
Another tradition I did today? Ate a cup of ramen with my onee-san at 10 o' clock at night XD;; Sodium levels at this point are through the roof I'm sure, but I spent most of today running, moving, volley-balling, and playing around with Junior High students at a very small school (all while on TV), so perhaps I can handle the extra energy :P That and FANTASTIC melon-bread. Plus every single traditional japanese cuisine that you can imagine: I've eaten it. Nato, Umiboshi, Mochi, Sushi, Ramen, Taiko, Okonomayaki and SO MUCH TEA. I've yet to try sake, but I plan to before I leave. I also made soba today and got hit on by Japanese men ^^;; One of the more embarassing highlights of my trip so far. It's been quite a ride so far. But another guess what?
I FINALLY REALIZE I'M IN JAPAN XD It took a while, but it's finally sunk in that I'm here and doing things that I never thought would be possible. Thank you again ALL so much who helped me get here and I know the rest of my stay will be just as awesome.
