Day One of my jam-packed week is over. Muni Band concert went well; only got glared at for tempo once, and I hit my solo in Hollywood well. I don't even remember if I was too fast or too slow...it doesn't matter. It's over and forgotten by everyone but me, so I will now follow that lead.
Rudy said my tuning was good, which is very much appreciated. I felt like my technique was a bit sloppy, but that's to be expected on the first night of the season. Need to watch the pitch on the third drum (went wonky on a few sfz's). Mayor Ardis made some very generous comments about the band, which was nice, and the moon in the darkening blue sky was fantastic.
Good story, bro.
Left 4 Dead is a little microcosm for Muni Band shows - There are brief moments of intense stress and panic that require absolute concentration and teamwork to get through alive, followed by a relative calm in which you can appreciate the nuances of your environment. Come to think of it, Left 4 Dead kinda parallels my entire life during summer...(What's the term for when the form of a part of something mimics the form of the whole it's contained in? Caldwell would know.)
...my life doesn't have zombies, but you understand.
