project runway recap

For a while, I think I had this unfounded trust in the judges. I assumed that they had a greater understanding of fashion than I and so, in making decisions, would understandably differ in their choices. Now, I think they're just full of it. Or the producers have a much greater hand than I had hoped. And if Tim (someone somewhere called him the Silver Fox, which I like) says, "Chacon a son gout," that essentially means he completely disagrees and is too diplomatic to say so.

Random thoughts on the workspace segments:

Jillian asks if her hair is abnormally big today. Um, nobody cares about your hair, Jillian. Everyone's just being polite.

Ricky is crying again. And he made his date's prom dress. Hah! Sometimes he's funny, but the crying has got to stop. Actually, if I had my way, he'd already be gone.

Victorya needs to stop with the gum-chewing and the eye-rolling. It only reinforces my perception of her as a total biotch.

Okay, for the dresses.

I was really surprised the Victorya won. I mean, I didn't hate her dress (though the more I look at it, the more I dislike it). The girl definitely liked it. It was fun and youthful. But the boobs look squished and the jeweled thingy...well, as TIm says, "Chacon a son gout."

I was really surprised that Kevin was auf'd. It wasn't a great dress--that's for sure. It was totally unoriginal. But part of me wonders that if her hair had been different (because it was god awful) if it would've changed things. It really did add a few decades. But I personally thought Kevin was one of the stronger designers, so I was really really surprised. Ricky's was bad (though his model was so cute and happy) and I would definitely have preferred his auf this week.

I have my eyes on Rami, and I'm thinking he's going to Bryant Park. But I'm not on board with his dress this week. The color was a little too adult for her, though it looked pretty good on her skin. But his Eye candy dress was loads more youthful than this one. And when he asked to respond to that, I was utterly disappointed with what he had to say. I did like the little corsage. I thought it was cute.

When Kit, Jillian, and Chris were first called, I assumed they were part of the top/bottom crew. Then they were dismissed, and I was really surprised. Chris' dress especially looked beautiful, and the detailing in the back was great. Having been bored with tons and tons of high school prom photos from students, I can vouch for the fact that kids would be all over Chris' and not at all into Victorya's. Perhaps if he'd chosen a brighter color it would've attracted more attention.

Kit's top was nice, but I didn't like the bottom. I would've liked to see something a little more edgier, maybe layered, less structured.

Sweet P's dress came out beautifully, but no more than Chris'. I'm not sure why one was better than the other.

And Victorya's model may have been the skinniest, but she sure wasn't the prettiest. Seriously, Chris's model rocked the runway.

I don't think that Michael Kors needed to bring up Kevin's sexual orientation in his dissection of the dress (in his blog). It was plain, it wasn't beautifully constructed, and the styling definitely had much to be desired. But making blanket statements about how straight men have difficulty with evening wear--and thus Kevin's struggle--is like saying that Asians are such determined workers. No wonder Victorya has won 2 already. It just seems to be in poor taste. Kevin wasn't my choice to be auf'd, but his dress definitely had weaknesses. But let's talk about the dress, not the designer's heterosexuality.

I'm done with Victorya and her eye rolls.
