just saw juno today. very clever. witty dialogue. utterly delightful.
this movie has some great lines. the characters, juno especially, are all very clever and quick-witted. the relationship between juno and her parents (well, step-mother) is very sweet but at the same time edgy. they fight and yet support each other so thoroughly. when the dad and stepmom are talking to each other, the dialogue is a bit too clever, as if the writer wants all of her characters to have the same kind of sense of humor, and at times it's a little unbelievable. but still, a moviegoer likes good dialogue, so suspension of disbelief continues on.
one thing i noticed, and liked the movie better for it, was the lack of villains. usually, in these kinds of movies, the parents are the villains (or the cool kids or the police...). but in this movie, the relationships are much more subtle. there are weaknesses in all of the characters, and yet those weaknesses simply add depth rather than brand them as the bad guys. even mark--who finds himself attracted to a 16-year-old, decides to leave his marriage, and refuses to admit he's an adult--has the viewer's sympathy to a certain extent. i liked seeing how juno found herself drawn to mark but didn't fully understand the ramifications of spending time with him. she recognizes her attraction--seen with the lipstick application--but it never occurs to her that he might see her in a sexual light. and it speaks volumes that mark finds this wonderful connection with a teenager.
i found myself weepy at many points during this movie, but i chalk that up to post-pregnancy. so what if my son is now 9 months? ;)
overall, i completely enjoyed this movie and would consider buying the dvd. juno's character is really likeable, and the storyline is totally engaging. 2 thumbs up. :)
