ISO Comfortable Fall/Winter Coat

Hi there fats -

My husband and I recently moved from New York City to Pittsburgh. It's been a big adjustment - a change of scenery and a change in how we used to do basically everything. We lived in a very small apartment, did not own a car, and walked everywhere despite whatever kind of heat wave, blizzard or rain storm was outside. Being out of NYC now, we drive everywhere and it really doesn't matter if it's cold/snowy/rainy out because we walk directly from our house to the car in the garage and from the car into a store/restaurant/work/etc. I'm sure this is how many of you do things, but it's new for us.

Anyway, I didn't expect that my wardrobe needs would be different living here. I've had to adjust several things, mainly being how casual people dress here in Pittsburgh. Most of my clothes are really too dressy for now, especially since I don't have a job yet and don't have anywhere to dress up and go to. SO - what I'm really looking for right now is a coat that will get me through the Fall and Winter here. I have barely used a coat so far - so I guess I really need it for the colder temperatures. I do NOT think that I need something super heavy and very, very warm because I just don't think it will be necessary.

I have lovely coats, but I am finding that I LOATHE driving in a coat. I feel restricted, uncomfortable, and like my arms must be stuffed in like a sausage. I think it is due to the stiffer construction of pea coats and the like and I just feel like I can't move comfortably while driving. What I really would like it something soft and flexible - something that has a lot of movement and range of motion. In my head, something like a plain old fleece would work well, but I would really like to maintain some style. I want something modern and stylish, but comfortable and versatile. I want to wear it to the grocery store with yoga pants or out to dinner on the weekend with jeans and a nice top. Please help oh holy fats! I'm a size 24, I'm almost 30 years old, and I tend to lean towards classic/preppy styles without the stuffiness. THANK YOU!

Edited to add: I found the perfect coat at Kohl's. It looks like a regular pea coat but it is made out of a sturdy sweatshirt material. Lots of room to move around and a nice medium weight. Thanks for everyone's suggestions!
