Hi fats...
My husband and I are going to Vegas from Pittsburgh on Friday. He booked the flight and chose Southwest. I was a little irritated that he didn't take their 'customers of size' policy into account, but he honestly didn't think it would be an issue and the flight was significantly less expensive than others.
As our trip approaches, I am beginning to panic. I am a size 22/24 with a lot of my weight in my stomach/hip area. My husband is a big guy and is chubby, but he is also a bodybuilder so he often comes off as more muscular than chubby. He weighs around 255 lbs. We have never flown Southwest before so we really don't know what to expect. I was hoping some of you could help prepare me. Are they going to single me out? Him out? Should we be prepared to be mortified and prepared to buy another seat? We purchased the early-bird check-in so we can be in the earlier group to board the plane and hopefully get a decent seat. Are there decent seats? Bad seats? Will it make a difference? Do you think it's better for us to sit together so we encroach on each others space or to sit apart so we don't look like two fat people sitting together?
I'm just nervous and not looking forward to this trip at all anymore....
EDITED TO ADD:
This unfortunately did not get posted until I was already on my way HOME from Vegas. It is too bad because I really was freaking out. So nervous that my husband gave me a little something to calm my anxiety and chill me out, which did not work and only ended up making me nervous, but tired and spaced out. Anyway, to Vegas and back I was not looked at twice. My husband and I found seats together both flights and we sat with the arm rest up just fine together. Granted, I can't say we were comfortable, but we fit and all was well. The seat belt fit fine, the seats were normal in my opinion, and all went smoothly. Thanks for the responses I got - I just wish I had them before I left!
