Bare-bellied at Lumen Obscura

Apr 24, 2011 00:39

April 2nd I co-hosted an event in Santa Cruz showcasing a DC dancer named Belladonna and my boyfriend's band Vernian Process as well as Ariellah, Dusty Paik, Unwoman, Raks Hakohaveem, Karmaja and more. It was an amazing night and I was very proud to be apart of it.

Not all of the photos have been released, but mine did! and I thought you girls might like that it was my first-ever dance solo SANS BELLY COVER! :O

I bared my belly proudly for all to see. I never thought of it being like a huge thing for me, but one of my besties convinced me that I should go without the "modesty cover" because I should be proud of my body and by covering up my mid-section, i was covering up all my hard work. I hadn't thought of it that way till then and i felt a little scared at the thought of hanging my custom-sized belly cover up for the performance. I even brought it when i packed my costume for the show. Call it a last minute craziness, but i decided to make my sistah proud and NOT wear it. And I was a little nervous to see the pictures, but i'm actually quite proud of them. I should have listened more to the people that cared about me than my own, harshest judgements of myself. Considering all that's been consuming me lately (mom in the hospital, depression, school, general life-suckingness) i needed a boost. This is the first time that I feel happy looking at my body at my heaviest. I can't share that feeling with anyone like i can share that feeling with you ladies, and how much I owe it to the fabulousness and support that surrounds me.

;D
