That first skirt is fabulous!

I agree about LB, I've stopped shopping there unless I get a gift card I have to use, and even then I have a horrible time getting anything I want/can afford.

THIS. As a size 24, after buying three tops for under $20 in their weirdly huge xxl at Old Navy, I walked over to Lane Bryant... ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I was looking on the HUGE sale rack where things were on sale and then another 40% off... And things would have still been $25-50!!!

Lame.

First, thanks, ustmistress! I love it!

And I agree with you, curiousbelle, it's ridiculous! Particularly when the stuff at Old Navy is BETTER quality than the stuff at LB! Cut better, too. Seriously, just compare a basic v neck or scoop neck tee from both stores.

I've never tried on anything from the Faith 21 line so I don't know if they would fit me to begin with but even if their skirts, for example, fit my waist I feel like they would be way too short on me. I know Faith 21 is supposed to youthful so maybe that's why everything is so short but, I don't know, it just kind of annoys me. I mean, I don't give a hoot if someone else is wearing something short, I just don't feel comfortable in short things. Is it too much to make a skirt that at least hits the knees?

Gahh, sorry I was such a Negative Nelly. I <3 those skirts you posted photos of. Very cute.

You're not a negative nelly at all, you've got your experience and that's totally valid!

I agree with you to an extent- there's definitely a time where I want a decent knee length skirt and turn up with next to nothing. Though I have to say, Torrid does a pretty good job of having a variety of different length skirts. Plus, Forever 21 sells a specific kind of product- even if you were a size 0, you'd have trouble finding a knee length skirt there! That's just their product line.

I have loved LB for years, and could always walk into the store and find (too many) things I wanted. Now... nothing. The prices are ridiculous and everything is, for the most part, pretty ugly and just not my style at all. It seems like there's no casual clothing anymore - 90% of the store is for people who work in an office and have way too much money to spend.

I suppose this is a good thing, for now, since at least I can save some money since nothing at LB tempts me lol.

The office clothes are still off the mark, though. I worked at LB for a year and they would officially only make the suiting things in the fall. When your store sold out, that was it. No more would be shipped in. This meant we'd have some leftover pants and things, but if you needed a suit (and c'mon, people can need a suit year-round!) in, say, April, you were totally SOL.

YES, I hated that. Thankfully Catherine's carries suiting year round, which is where I've gotten mine. But I had to turn away a lot of customers who came in asking for suits when I worked at LB.

You know, it's weird. Because I work in offices all day, but am young. So, I need casual clothes AND I need work clothes. I can find neither at LB. What's the deal with that?

Their suiting options are horrific- aside from high prices and poor cuts, I find that the zippers die in any of their pants within a month (this is whether the pants are too tight, just right, or too big- doesn't matter). Then, the butts are cut weird in all of their work slacks, too. Bah.

The casual clothes are WAY over priced and awkwardly cut. The necklines on their stuff just trips me out- they do that weird, super high v neck that flatters no one .

I'd agree, LB are really not doing well when it comes to style, quality and price. I haven't found much of anything at LB in the past several years. I bet you anything the department store that was replaced by F21 at your Bakersfield mall was a Mervyn's. They went out of business earlier this year (to my disappointment, because I was happy with the plus size fashions they'd gotten in the last 2 years), and the Mervyn's in one of my local malls was replaced with a F21. I have to say, I was disappointed to see this happen because I'm not a big fan of F21's trendy styles. While I'm all for plus size fashion being available to women of all ages, lately I've seen more and more stores replacing what I feel are more quality plus size items for more youth-oriented styles (Target, this means you!), and less and less available for stylish women in their 30s and 40s. I guess plus size retail marketing teams don't think we have money to spend on clothes. Right.

We need to go into business together. ;)

Wish I had some business sense or I'd join you! 37 here, and neither in the market for cute trendy stuff that looks so great on teens, but not really wanting shapeless acrylic seasonal kitten applique sweaters and "World's Best Grandma" sweatshirts.

I, too, want to join this little cabal. I'm 38 and and a business professional. It's not the same as being in high school.

lol@ "World's Best Grandma". How about a Merry Christmas vest with cats on it?

I've stopped even looking in LB. Even the basics seem frumpy at this point and seriously, even the clearance prices are more than I could pay elsewhere for something much nicer.

and how come Faith 21 doesn't have the cute stuff on the site? They carry the line is so few stores you would think they would have it all online! The stuff you got is really cute.

How do you mess up a tshirt? That's what I don't get. Old Navy gets it right- you throw in a little stretch so it hugs the right places, make sure the v is deep enough, the sleeves are a decent length, and boom- great.

Whereas LB has these horrible shirts that if you wear them an hour, get all stretched out of shape and saggy. Oh, and cost 4 times what the same thing at Old Navy costs (ON will have more color choices, too!).

Ugh, I hate how everything from LB stretches out! EVERYTHING. I seriously can't wear any of my older stuff because it's too big now and I've GAINED weight. I think that a lot to do with their t-shirts is they always seem to make them wider than they need to be and short than they should be. Same with tank tops.

Reply

diosabellissima December 11 2009, 23:19:07 UTC
YES. That's exactly it. It's funny you mention the tanks- I've always wondered how they manage to mess those up. Old Navy stretchy regular $5 tanks? Fit amazing, I just wish they could be a TITCH longer. So, I go to LB, pay four times as much for their tank top, then have the arm holes be weirdly tight while the rest of it is bunching and bagging within an hour.
