Fatty-fatty 2-by-4

I tuned into our local FOX affiliate tonight and caught some outrageous - for lack of a better word - news clips. I wanted to vent, so I turned to you lovely and enlightened people.

The first image on my screen was a picture of a headless fatty, in a WHEELCHAIR, no less! The voiceover was talking about weightloss and obesity. The closed-captioning picked up something about increased exposure to sunlight leading to weight loss.

With the next segment, the image shifted to pictures of more headless people, not so fat this time, walking around. The voiceover commented on how Americans are living so much longer now.

Umm, does anyone else have problems with this? The message I got was, if you poor disabled person had gone outside more, you wouldn't be so fat; you might not even be disabled!  But in the next segment, Americans are living longer (but they're fatter, too). Does our fat help us live longer? Or maybe it's not an issue affecting our life expectancy? Oy.

Did anyone else see the beginning of that first segment and can fill me in? Is it as outrageous as I think it is? What do you think of these latest "reports" about avoiding TEH FAT?
