Tummy Tuck Jeans WTF?: A Review

May 14, 2009 14:36

The other day I decided I needed some jeans as I've outgrown my standards (SJB Bitten jeans, I will miss you). I was at Cargo Largo, the GREATEST odd lots/salvage store in the Kansas City area. After trying on a dozen pair of jeans in different sizes and brands, I ended up with two. A pair of Diva-cut Old Navy jeans for $15 and a strange pair from Not Your Daughter's Jeans called Tummy Tuck Jeans, in the Marilyn Slim Leg style, also for $15. I put them on today for the first time.

I tucked in my shirt, so you can kind of see where they suck you in.

Overall, I like them. The denim is soft, like your favorite well-worn jeans. The fabric is 96% cotton, 4% spandex. According to their website, they also have some special patent weave that allows them to fit as well as they do, but as a weaver, I'm not seeing anything particularly special in the weave. They also don't gap at the back like so many jeans do on us fat-bottomed girls. Their tummy tuck feature is achieved by sewing in two large cotton panels across the front of the jeans and sewing a big red X across the fabric. Unlike a lot of seams on my jeans, I'm not feeling the X's pressing into my belly. They do seem to hold my stomach in without it being uncomfortable the way high-waisted jeans tend to. There's also not the weird loose area under my belly that usually happens with high-waisted jeans. Unlike my mid-rise jeans, I can sit comfortably in these for a long period of time without the button and zipper pressing into my stomach.

The sticker and hang tag on the jeans claims that the special XX feature will "lift your buttocks and allow you to look and feel one size smaller." Personally, I'm not noticing the buttocks thing, but I think my butt is high and mighty enough without extra support. I looked them up online and they go up to size 24 (plus size petities too!), however, I could only find them in one style on Amazon. Also, they retail for $95-$120.

All in all, I think they're great jeans. While, I'm probably young for their demographic (marketed towards +30) and do not find the name appealing, I understand where a lot of ladies might. Would I go out again and buy them retail? Heck no, not with a price tag like that! Will I go hit up Cargo Largo again to see if I can find another pair? Maybe.
