There have been previous posts in the community about the new
Massachusetts policy to send reports on children's BMI home to their parents. But after I posted a link on ideas around how to work to keep concerns around children and weight from increasing fat stigma in school, someone who reads my journal told me that she was excited to pass the link along to her partner, a Massachusetts teacher who has been strategizing about how to talk to staff and students about the new policy.
So I thought I'd
post it here, too, in an attempt to make it visible to more folks who might find it useful. I sent it along to a local reporter I know, too, along with a little discussion about our paper's coverage of both the BMI program and also bullying in the schools.
Here, also, is an excellent article linking school programs that focus on fat kids with bullying by Dr. Michael Fitzpatrick, who wrote The Tyranny of Health.
