Suit jackets for ultracurvy hourglass figures?

Jan 07, 2009 15:13

I'm in REAL need of a suit jacket that FITS. I am busty and with a gigantic ass... and by the time I get something that fits my top and my bottom, my waist is totally lost. I keep having issues with jackets that are extremely baggy in the lower back! I also have relatively narrow shoulders that complicate the fitting in the bust too. Does ( Read more... )

Bravissimo do fantastic ones, but they only seem to have one style on their website at the moment. They're definitely worth checking out, though!

I forgot to say that I need a US size 22 or so. I think Bravissimo WOULD be good, but the size range is not big enough! I fall just off the top end of the size chart. :(

oy, i forgot bravissimo doesn't go bigger. in that case, yr probably best off getting one that fits where yr largest and getting it taken in. that tailor guy in harvard square (TOTALLY blanking on the name, it might be across the street from american apparel?) fixed up a dress of mine pretty well.

Oh! Harvard Square huh? That's easy for me. :D Did you have the guy do something involved? Ive been reading reviews for tailors in Best of Boston and Citysearch, and I see a LOT of people just want things hemmed. Hemming is so darn (get it?! :D ) easy that it doesnt inspire a lot of confidence that the tailor could do something complicated, and do it well. TY for your input!

Have you tried Igigi? They have a couple that seem to button under the bust area, and look like they accommodate a larger bust/curvier figure. http://www.igigi.com/shop/index.cfm/fuseaction/product.display/product_id/649
The slight ruffle detail is super cute!

Oooh that is cute! I like the belt and that would probably help with my "baggy in the lower back" problem. It also does look like it would actually button UNDER my breasts, instead of ON them, like so many of the others I have tried. Its a great suggestion. TY!

I would suggest buying something that lock's and loads the girls in the chest area, and tailoring the rest. I have a body similar to yours, and that is the ONLY WAY that I can buy and wear suit jackets, blazers, and most coats.

Good luck!

Heh heh. Locks and loads?

I couldn't resist using some what not to wear lingo in there because it is really true!

I have not yet found a lock & load jacket LOL! My issue there is that since I'm so busty, the jackets button up too high and OVER my breasts not under them. I probably just need to try more of them until I find one with low buttons and then do as you suggest with the tailoring. TY!

I've had great luck with Semantiks from Nordstrom. They're the only blazers and suit components I've found that flatter my shape. I think they must use a plus-size fit model. I have a few on which I had to get minor alterations, but others that looked great right off the rack.

If you have a Nordstrom Rack near you, check there first, but you can usually find a few in Nordstrom.com's sale section.

The two Nordstrome jackets I mentioned in my post are from Semantiks!! I was so optimistic about these, but it turns out that I am pretty squarely between sizes. I will try more things from this line though... the smaller size was such a close call fitwise, and I liked the fabric and the style a lot. I am going to talk to the Nordstrom tailor and see what s/he can do about altering the larger one too. Thank you!

I think their sizing runs a little big, too. I have I think four jackets from them, in three different sizes. I'd assume that, in your case, the smart thing would be to get the larger size and have it tailored down in places, but when I did that I regretted not just getting the smaller size to begin with and having less extensive (and less expensive) tailoring done. Good luck!

I guess the good news is that I ordered BOTH, and I can take them both in to the tailor and see what he or she advises. I'm definitely closer to fitting into the smaller one, but I can't tolerate any gapping or visible tension at the buttons at all. I havent had much experience with tailoring, but I should at least talk with them about it I think. Thank you for your input. I really appreciate it!

If you need alterations in Boston, I can't recommend Beatrice Taslakian/Queen Dressmakers enough. It's a little out of the way - you have to take a bus (71 or 73) from Harvard Square or drive as her shop is on the Cambridge/Belmont line. But she's wonderful; super nice, and knows *everything* there is to know about clothing. I think she used to work in clothing manufacturing so she knows how stuff is put together and understands every kind of stitch and construction. Reasonable prices. If you need a jacket altered like that, she can do it.

Oh, awesome - the address is 37 Belmont Street. I'm always glad to go there because it gives me an excuse to satisfy my sweet tooth at Sofra down the block ;)

Good luck finding a jacket! Sorry I (and my B cup, heh) can't be of help in that arena.
