Bathing Suits Review

Dec 23, 2008 10:55

Hello all and Happy Holidays! I should be studying for a final but this is just a lot more fun. So I just saw the post reviewing some Junonia bathing suits and I realized that I should share my recent experiences in ordering from Lands' End. Actually, I ordered several suits from different locations so my review will be of all of them.

Ok so I'm going to Mexico in January and I realized I don't really love any of my bathing suits. Some I think are ugly, but they fit well and others are cute, but the fit is all wrong. So I was determined to find something I really love. My first score was when one of our fellow fatshionistas came through and sent me the beloved Merona giraffe print one-piece from Target. I had searched all summer for it. It arrived and I adore it.

Next I ordered from www.onestopplus.com. Their selection was good and their prices were even better. Here is what I ordered -

Resorts Thigh-Trimming Sarong style suit
http://www.onestopplus.com/clothing/Resorts-Plusandreg-Thightrimming-sarongstyle-Swimsuit.aspx?PfId=33869&DeptId=11594&ProductTypeId=1&from=L
It looked cute when I opened it, but then I tried it on. It was way too short, the soft cups were dragging my boobs down. I admit I do have a problem with suits being too short, despite the fact that I have an average torso length. The style was very cute, but the material was not sturdy and the clasp in the back was flimsy plastic. I got the brown white print, which was very pretty.

Sunbird 2-piece Swimdress Print
http://www.onestopplus.com/clothing/Sunbird-2pc-swimdress-Print.aspx?PfId=99567&DeptId=11594&ProductTypeId=1&from=L
I was intrigued by this because I had never seen a bathing suit like it. I thought it looked kind of cute and so I tried it. Verdict - AWFUL. It came with a giant shapeless almost see-through black bottom. Then I put on the top and it was just a mass of shapeless and way too thin fabric. It also came with a very thin black string to tie. I thought maybe that would give me some shape around me waist and it would be forgiving in other places. No - it was like a maternity tent bathing suit. Ick. The good part was the comfortable shelf bra. I also liked the yoked neck - the rest was all wrong.

Ruffle Trim Swimdress
The color (blue sapphire) was beautiful but it was huuuuge. I should have mentioned that I swear a solid 24 usually, but I try to order a 26 in bathing suits. I have big boobs and a big belly and I like the extra coverage usually. This suit was gaping off of me. The material was sturdy but the stitching looking awful. The boobs were ridiculously huge and I have big boobs (40G). Very bad.

One Stop Plus - not good at all. I returned them all.

Then.... I bought one from Woman Within, who oddly enough does not have this bathing suit now - onestopplus does! Anyway, it is the -

Delta Burke 1-piece swimdress.
http://www.onestopplus.com/clothing/Delta-Burke-1-piece-Swimdress.aspx?PfId=104427&DeptId=11594&ProductTypeId=1&from=L
I love it. I was looking for a swimdress that covered by thighs, which are not my favorite area, but wasn't soooo long that it looked like an actual dress. My friend kept calling the others "formal swimwear" because they looked like long dresses! This was is the perfect length, great boob support, cute enough style in royal blue (much more royal than I expected), very good quality. Excellent. Recommended.

Onto Just My Size at www.jms.com
I ordered this Anchor One-piece Swimdress in blue/pink
http://www.jms.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce/ProductDisplay?prnbr=19194&cgnbr=7021000000
My friend loved it, I was afraid the anchors were cheesy. It's so cute though. Not too long. Good support. Good enough quality - not superb. I feel comfortable and happy like I was to skip on the beach.

Ok then I said, well I should check out Lands' End. This is where it got out of hand. I ordered a million items. I kept ordering some, keeping one or two things and then returning. I repeated this process 3 times.

I got this in black - it's huge. Not flattering at all. The shirred sides are just terrible.

I got this in pink. Really cute color. It's a little long but flattering with a little bottom. It can be adjusted and I love it. Good boob support with underwire. I might actually detach the straps!

In seaglass green/pink. Oh my goodness this is gorgeous. The colors are amazing. The support is incredible with soft bra and criss-cross back. Get this, it's sooo nice.

In brown - way too long. It came halfway down my thigh. I just want to cover some trouble spots, not look like I'm in the Victorian era. Returned.

Then I noticed this - a MINI swim mini. It's perfect. I got it in black and brown. Short and sweet and flattering. I will wear the death out of it. I feel so comfortable! Just covered enough while still looking 26 years old!

I got this in seaglass green print. The color/pattern is divine but the straps are way too long, giving my girls no support at all. I loved the style and color but it had to go.

http://www.landsend.com/pp/CapriSolidGatheredSwimTop~191518_57.html?bcc=y&action=order_more&sku_0=::BLA&CM_MERCH=IDX_00002__0000000134&origin=index
I got this in plum wine. The color is a brighter purple than expected, but still pretty. I love it. Good support. Love to metal details on the straps.

http://www.landsend.com/pp/CapriMiniSwimMini~191652_57.html?bcc=y&action=order_more&sku_0=::PWI&CM_MERCH=IDX_00002__0000000134&origin=index
So I got the bottom to go with it. No - it's terrible. It's awful. It was too big, the little wrap front part didn't sit straight. I have a big belly and it made the wrap hang low. I just hated it. It went bye-bye so I will pair the top with the black or brown mini swim mini.

Holy crap. By far the most supportive and flattering top I have ever owned. I sometimes hate the soft cup bra because it bunches if you don't fill it out completely. I think the boobs run big in Lands' End suits. This has no padding, just underwire (you can customize it). It is soooo wonderful!

In raspberry/tangerine. I knew the fit would be wrong but the color made me so happy. It looks just like a Tory Burch shoe box! Indeed, the fit was wrong - too short, no support in the boobs. Beautiful though.

http://www.landsend.com/pp/SolidRuchedVneckTankSwimsuit~188216_57.html?bcc=y&action=order_more&sku_0=::RIB&CM_MERCH=IDX_00008__0000000134&origin=index
In black - pretty cute, just a little too short so my underbelly poked out a bit. That is the thing I'm most self-conscious about so I returned it. It was cute though.

In black. Cute pattern, awful awful fit. Too short just like the one in the same style from onestopplus. Maybe it's the style. Of course this one was better made but it had to go.

I got this in a 26 and it was so small I could barely get it on. It looked so funny I actually pranced in front of the mirror because the whole image was so funny. Goodbye bathing suit.

WOWZER! I think that was all of them. I found some really cute items that I am thrilled with - it just took a lot of buying and returning in the end. I am so happy I found bathing suits that look cute and young, but are have enough coverage and support to make me feel good. I'm going to Mexico with my best friend who is a size negative something. She loves all of me, but sometimes it's hard when she looks perfect regardless of what she has on. Don't get me wrong - I love myself and my curves, but it can be hard to find things that compliment those curves. I hope this very long review helped someone out there! Happy Holidays to everyone!

just my size, swim wear, reviews
