Review: A strangely unique series about money basically. Probably, a finance or business orientated person may find more of a connection to this series, however it was still an interesting plot. In some ways, the artwork is reminiscent of "Gankutsuou: Count of Monte Cristo", but much prettier.
Kimimaro gets forced to participate in a sort of game in an AU where his future is put up as stakes in a game that he is forced to duel other participants on a scheduled basis. If he wins, he gains his opponent's money. If his opponents go bankrupt or even looses, then they loose part or all of their future. The future may be anything they care for like their children. Regardless of the outcome, what happens in this AU affects the real world financially in disastrous ways. To fight, the participants use a special credit card that can call upon an asset that is sort of like an avatar w/ special powers. To use their powers, they have to charge a certain amount. Sometimes, they can sell part of their stocks or even go public w/ others buying your stocks. It’s a strange mix of financial terminology and typical shounen style action fights. The other strange perk of the story is that there really isn't a so called villain in the story. Everyone has their theological stance on how to deal w/ society's debt, and no one method in treating debt is quite wrong. There is one theory that if you sell off your future, you can save the today's world by buying up all the bankrupt businesses. Another way is to get rid of your financial backing on the yen and use American money instead. In other ways, it's to gain as money as you can for philanthropist reasons.
Overall, I liked it for its uniqueness and it’s artwork. It ended on a happy ending in which I found to be too tidy, but it was still an interesting premise. If you’re interested in questions of business finance or national debt, you may be interested in the series.
