Update:
before thanksgiving I think, i got a phone call from the head of the vet tech department at kirkwood community college, wanting to know if it was okay to put my name down to take the vet tech biology test- the one that determines if i am eligible to get into the program. due to my increaasing unhappiness at my job, I said yes.
being incredibly busy, i forget about said test until this weekend... the weekend before the test! >.< So, I spent all of last friday, saturday, and sunday cramming like I haven't done since college finals. Read 2 hours, rest an hour, read 2 hours, rest a couple hours. It was crazy and I thought I had no chance. I was studying off an AP Biology book- a book designed for highschool kids.
So, Monday came around. On Monday, I had a meeting with the management at my job, where they finally revealed that they weren't going to be hiring me now. The economy's too bad. So I've gone from "We're hiring you asap! Like, Tomorrow! Next week! Two months from now!" to "I'm sorry, we just can't hire you right now. We'll keep you as a temp. Only, if things keep going bad, you'll probably be the first to go." And I'm STILL not invited to the freaking company Christmas party. *growl*
I took the test that night. It was so hard!! There were questions on there that I hadn't prepared for at all- things that weren't in the book I was told to study from. Thank GOD the results were instant!
I GOT AN 82%!!!!!!!
I PASSED!!!
I'll have to find out the next step soon, because I've decided I'm going back to school this summer. It's going to be hard, and it's going to be a financial strain, but whatever.
All this was decided Monday night. Tuesday night, I was driving home in the snowstorm and, well, I got in a car accident.
I hit an iceslick on the 380, so did the car in front of me. In order not to hit that car, I swerved really hard, and the ice shot me off the highway and into the ditch. I hit a streetlamp and took it out completely, it landed on the passenger side of the car and broke the windshield. Then I hit the deer-fence thing that keeps the deer from coming up onto the road. Luckily it was there, or I'd have ended up in the ravine among the trees.
It jostled me pretty badly, lots of bruises from the airbags and some pulled muscles from straining to turn the car on the ice so as not to hit anyone, but aside from that I'm COMPLETELY fine. You wouldn't believe it at all from the car. Our van was totaled. We got to see it tonight and get our stuff out of it, and sign the insurance paperwork to turn it over. It was...terrifying and amazing and heartbreaking. She looked so broken and sad and yet she saved my life. The entire front end was basically on the ground and completely smooshed in. There's a big semi-circular dent where I hit the streetlight, I must have hit it just right to keep it from actually landing -on- me.
We got the loan paid off by the insurance, and enough money to buy a new car, so it worked out okay. Still, I'm kind of left with the subject line as my expression these days.
Someone let me know when the world stops spinning so weirdly!!
